Transportation

How do I get back to my car?

A one-way rail-trail adventure is a lot more relaxing when the ride home is already arranged. Here are the bicycle shuttle services currently listed in FHTPlanner.com, with their contact details and published rates where available.

One-way riding made easier

Ride the trail. Let someone else handle the drive.

Choose a starting town, enjoy the route at your own pace, and arrange transportation for you and your bicycle. A shuttle can turn a complicated point-to-point trip into a memorable day or multi-day adventure.

How I would arrange a shuttle

1 Choose your direction

Pick where you want to start and finish. Consider the wind forecast, elevation, and where you want to stay or stop.

2 Get a quote

Share your riding date, number of people, number and type of bikes, luggage, and desired pickup and drop-off.

3 Confirm the details

Agree on meeting locations, times, payment, and what happens if weather changes your plans.

A little advice:

If you're arranging a point-to-point ride, ask whether it works better to shuttle to the far end first and ride back to your parked car. That can remove the pressure of meeting a pickup time after a long day of cycling.

Other ways to get back

Not using a commercial shuttle? A friend or family member, a second vehicle, or an out-and-back ride can work just as well. The best option is the one that fits your group, budget, and preferred pace.

For longer adventures on the Flint Hills Trail, Prairie Spirit Trail, or Southwind Rail Trail, I would settle the transportation details before committing to an overnight itinerary.
