Trail Planning FAQ / Trail access

Trail access

Where can I park, including overnight?

I choose a starting town based on parking, desired distance and the return plan. Day parking does not always mean overnight parking is allowed.

Flint Hills Trail

Council Grove, Ottawa, Osawatomie and other access points provide different starting options. Check the specific lot for posted restrictions and confirm multi-night parking with the local authority.

Prairie Spirit Trail

Ottawa, Garnett and Iola make useful starting points. Parking policies can differ from one town lot or trailhead to another, so verify exactly where you intend to leave a car.

Southwind Rail Trail

Start from a suitable public access location in Iola or Humboldt; confirm longer-term parking before a multi-day trip.

A stress-saving step

If you're using a shuttle or pickup, confirm exactly where the rider, bicycles and vehicle will meet.

Build your own plan

Use the interactive planner to choose start and end towns and review services along the way. Confirm current trail conditions, seasonal facilities, lodging and shuttle arrangements before departing.
